Kayak Lessons
I had my first kayak lesson last night at Ruth Inch Memorial Pool. There are a 8 of us in the class. We were practicing tips and rescues (so its a good thing we were in the relatively warm pool). I had a really good time at the glass. I loved flipping the kayak and the instructors told me I did a good job (I think I can attribute that to my ability to wiggle my hips) and that I appeared totally comfortable (which I was- of course). I'm glad I'm taking the course because I'm learning some techniques which I didn't know (like bracing) and when the water is as cold as it is up here knowing how to rescue and be rescued is important. They kept stressing that you have about 1min before you start losing dexterity and 1.5 minutes before you start losing cognitive ability. So you better know what your doing.
I must admit that I have a few new bruises from hauling myself into the kayak but every bruise was worth the fun. Tonight I'm going to the lake for class- I'm grateful to my parents for supplying me with a wetsuit and paddling jacket because the water is going to be freezing and the air is going to be chilly (I was sporting a winter jacket yesterday). (Since I'm a sucker for punishment, I will hopefully enjoy every last minute of it)
