GNWT Health and Social Services Golf Tournament
Today we had our 'company' golf tournament at the Yellowknife Golf Club . I'm glad that I can say that I went golfing but I don't think that I'll be doing it again. I don't really like golfing (sorry Carrie) which is probably partly a function of the fact that I have no idea what I'm doing and I definetly didn't like the swarms of bugs that were attacking my despite my continual use of deet. I was bleeding, itching, swatting and generally not very impressed by the entire situation. That being said I had a fun team, including the assistant deputy minister (who I almost hit in the head with a golf ball- and I'm not exaggerating it literally flew right by her head). However once was definetly enough for me.
Interesting things about the YK golf club:
1) You don't get a penalty if the raven's steal your ball (which they apparently do).
2) It was bombed last year by the Canadian Airforce (apparently I bomb was accidently dropped as a plane took off from the YK airport).
3) They have a midnight tournament every June because its light out. I'm told there's lots of drinking at this tournament
4) They also have a tournament in the dark in September. They have special balls with glow sticks in them and there are glow sticks on the flags so you can kind of see where you're going.
