Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life

On Friday June 3, 2005 I will be running in the Relay for Life here in Yellowknife. The relay is from 7:00pm until 7:00am the next morning and I will be running/ walking a circuit around town. I'm on a team with 10 other people from Health and Social Services and I believe that our team name is Healin' Heros. The relay is used to raise money for cancer research and so I'm looking for people to sponsor me. Its possible to pledge online with the Canadian Cancer Society, and will even get a tax receipt mailed to you.

My First Day of Fishing

Megan and I hiked out on the Frame Lake trail this evening for some fishing and some reading respectively. The trail is really starting to transform- the trees are becoming a bright shade of green and the moss is turning from brown to green. It almost looks like a whole new trail. Before we got down to the tasks of fishing and reading it was first necessary to consume a small amount of food (grapes, melba toast and antipasto). 

A lovely evening for fishing on Frame Lake. Although I don't think that it's a good lake for fishing (I was the only person fishing on the entire lake) it was convenient and a good place to get my new rod out and practice a few casts. I should also mention that I looked very stylish in my lulu lemon pants and my purple shirt. 

I hit a road block when the top piece of my rod fell off on what was apparently a very forceful cast. 

Fishing hit another road bloack when I managed to get the line tangled around the reel. 

Back to fishing 

Opps I caught myself...oh well, at least I can say that I caught something! 

Rafting on Prosperous Lake

This is my friend David who took me rafting at Prosperous Lake today. 

This is me tanning yellowknife styles (actually it was very warm today,at least 20C but the wind on the water made is a little bit chilly). 

I'm chillin' by the raft (pardon the pun) 

Today I went on a hike that my boss was nice enough to drive for. The temperature was in the high teens, the sun was shining, the sky was blue and all in all it was a beautiful day. Unfortunately with the warm weather, it would appear the the giant, man eatting bugs are on their way! 

(Don't worry the next one is the English translation) 

They are tougher than I am fo' sure 

It is a tough life! 

The hike gets started 

The trail marker prooved to be too much burden for this poor little tree.

From left to right: Maria (aka the best boss ever), Jennifer (who works in Health and Social Services), Allison (who is doing a law placement) and me (please note my really dorky, yet practical hiking pants- they have many pockets, can become shorts and are tapered at the bottom...) 

Look, there's no ice visible on this part of the lake- you see I don't live in the Tundra (note: I refrained from posting any pictures that showed the entire lake covered in ice). 

We took our snack break from the top of a lookout with a phenomenal view of Prelude lake (although it did still have some ice on it, it still looked nice). We had very yummy prociutto and melone, homemade strawberry and white choco chip muffins and trail mix (and megan had cucumber salad). 

This is the giant mosquito that tried to have us for his snack (note his size incomparison to megan's finger... I am very afraid for what its going to be like in the future) 

Looking back up the trail... 

The is an Inukshuk that was looking out over Prelude lake from the top of an escrapment like point on the trail 

The rocks look a little bit like Northern Ontario 

This is really neat... it is very nice sand- definetly worthy of a beach towel should the temperature be warm enough (and it actually was today) that is apparently able to sustain coniferous trees.
